  1. This Town

From the recording Driver

Lyrics

This town was in a movie once 55 years ago
And everyone still clings to it like religion and all they know
There’s the theater they all ran from the diner where they ate
Still bragging from an old billboard just off the inner state

Now the factories have shut down the stores are shuttered up
And Main Street’s just a place to go when you need to fill her up
There’s hookers on the corners the cops just walk their beats
They’re cooking meth in an abandoned house at Bridge and Ashland Streets

This town’s got nothing on which to borrow
The good old days are good and gone
This town will still be here tomorrow
But I’m packing up my things and moving on

My old man he’s still hanging in though he’s getting on in years
He’s still standing tall behind his bar pouring shots and slinging beers
And he still talks a tough man’s game though he’s starting to feel his age
Yeah he’s a bit more than forgetful when he talks about the good old days

And I know that I once promised you back when we were kids
That I’d stay with you forever and for a while that’s what I did
But I’m getting out tomorrow you can come with me or not
It’ll be my first time anywhere and I reckon my last shot

This town’s got nothing on which to borrow
The good old days are good and gone
This town will still be here tomorrow
But I’m packing up my things and moving on

It’s all I’ve got but I just can’t take no more
I’m pouring drinks at 10:00 a.m.
All the has-beens and the have-nots
Will open up the door and wonder where I am

This town’s got nothing on which to borrow
The good old days are good and gone
This town will still be here tomorrow
But I’m packing up my things and moving on

Yes I’m packing up my dreams and I’ll be gone
